Your Pet's Surgery
Beyond spays, and neuters we also perform additional soft tissue surgeries, including but not limited to tumor removal, cystotomies, gastrointestinal surgeries, eye and ear surgeries, laceration repairs, feline declaws and wound management. We also offer certain orthopedic surgeries at our hospital via a mobile surgical service. The night before any surgery, the patient should not have any food after 10pm and also no food the morning of surgery. Water may be given the night before and morning of surgery.
Anesthesia and Monitoring
Anesthesia and cardiovascular monitoring are important, integral aspects of every surgery we perform. For this reason, your pet will receive both anesthetic and cardiovascular monitoring during their procedure.
Prior to anesthesia all pets are examined by a doctor and a pre-surgical blood screen is performed. The results of these tests and your pet's past anesthetic history, breed, preexisting conditions, and age are used to create an individualized anesthesia protocol for your pet.
During anesthesia and surgery, your pet is constantly monitored by a trained team member, using our advanced monitoring system. This system continuously monitors your pet's arterial oxygen level, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and core body temperature. We also apply heat therapy to ensure a safe body temperature is maintained throughout the procedure.
Pain Management
Pain management is not just about compassionate care. We have found that a proper and balanced application of pain medications means your pet will be able to heal quickly and with less discomfort. Therefore, pain management is an important aspect of our surgical protocols. At discharge, we may also send additional pain management medication home with you to ensure a comfortable recovery.
Postoperative Care
During the postoperative period while your pet is in the hospital, they will be very closely monitored as they recover from anesthesia. At your pet's surgical discharge appointment we will provide you with detailed information on how to properly care for your pet at home after surgery. We are also happy to answer any questions or concerns that may arise once you get your pet home.
