Our hospital offers a variety of diagnostic services to assess your pet's health.
Our Lab
Laboratory testing allows us to gain a view inside your pet's body in order to assess overall systemic health. We recommend regular testing during wellness exams or when we suspect your pet may have a health issue. We work with several outside laboratories to offer countless lab tests to help assess your pet's overall health including: blood panels, heartworm and tick-borne disease testings, FELV/FIV testing, parvo virus testing, urinalysis, fecal analysis and cytologies.
Radiography
Radiographs, also know as x-rays, are extremely helpful at diagnosing a variety of conditions affecting the pet's lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity, bladder, kidney, and other areas. For example, an x-ray can detect bladder stones, tumors, or foreign objects that your pet may have ingested. X-rays are also critical in diagnosing and treating injuries including but not limited to: broken bones, joint injuries, joint malformations, and a variety of other orthopedic conditions. We also recommend full mouth digital dental radiographs during our dental procedures to evaluate what lies beneath the gumline. We also have the ability to perform hip, knee, and elbow x-rays on your dog for OFA Certifications.
Ophthalmologic Diagnostics
Part of our routine annual physical exam is to perform a thorough ophthalmologic examination. If additional tests are necessary, we offer a variety of tests to address your pet's current eye condition. We routinely perform tear testing, fluorescein staining, and tonometry testing.
Dermatology Diagnostics
Skin diseases, such as bacterial, fungal, allergic, parasitic, and hormonal skin diseases, are common in pets. The first step in diagnosing your pet's current skin issue is a detailed history. We also have a variety of diagnostic testing that can be performed including: skin scraping, cytology, fungal cultures, skin biopsy, histopathology, and allergy testing.
Electrocardiography
Electrocardiographs (EKG) are snapshots of how your pet's heart functions. These are very helpful at detecting numerous types of arrhythmias as well as a handful of other cardiac conditions that can be difficult to identify through a stethoscope. An EKG test is a noninvasive procedure that involves simply connecting a handful of electrodes to your pet's skin. The machine will read the electrical impulses coming from the heart as the heart works to pump blood and provide a graph for interpretation of your pet's cardiac function.
Ultrasound
Veterinary ultrasound is a powerful diagnostic tool and used as well as to monitor ongoing conditions. Ultrasound uses sound waves to form a picture of the interior of the body without using radiation. These images are complimentary to radiographs and provide additional information. Ultrasound may be used for the following: pregnancy evaluation, cardiac disease, pancreatitis, liver disease, kidney disease, abdominal masses, vomiting/diarrhea, urinary issues, and much more. Our practitioners offer some ultrasound procedures, or we may also recommend referral to an internal medicine specialist depending on the type of ultrasound needed.
